Hand Therapy at Furnace Brook

The hand therapy clinic at Furnace Brook Physical Therapy had humble beginnings 6 years ago. It was started to fill the void as Quincy Medical Center was winding down and closing and left the residents of Quincy and surrounding towns without a certified hand therapist. At first, the clinic was open 3 days a week treating all manner of upper extremity orthopedic injuries including wrist and finger fractures, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome. By offering individualized one hour therapy sessions for patients, and offering convenient night and weekend hours, we were able to develop good relationships with many of the hand and orthopedic doctors in Boston and the South Shore. The clinic grew from a part time to full time endeavor 3 years ago to accommodate the growing number of patients referred to our hand therapist. It also grew into a larger space to accommodate the specific tools and exercises needed to treat the growing number and vastly different hand wrist and elbow injuries that were being referred.

Now, 6 years after it opened, Furnace Brook Hand Therapy has grown again with the addition of a second therapist trained specifically in the treatment of finger, hand, wrist and elbow injuries. Throughout our growth, the focus of our occupational therapists and mission has not changed; to provide the residents of Quincy, greater Boston and the South Shore with the best care and recovery from their hand and upper extremity injuries.
